Founded back in 1812 by Johann Ludwig, this city has become one location many travelers want to experience. Petra is home to the Treasury, also known as the Al-Khazneh which is a 30m wide, 43m kigh pink rock faced building.
The Treasury
The Treasury is something everyone traveling to Petra will want to experience. To this day it has remained a building of beauty and a testament to what the Nabataeans were capable of many years ago. Back in the first century the Treasury was carved to become a royal tomb and even after all these years it still is a truly amazing building to see and experience. Many travelers visit this grand location every year and you should include yourself into one of these people.
The Street of Facades
The Street of Facades is the home of the 3,000 seat open theatre which was created by the Nabateans and then many years later the Romans enlarged this theatre even more. The canyon has been lined with many various facades tombs which is the entrance into the theatre itself.
The High Place of Sacrifice
For those more adventurous types, you will really love the High Place of Sacrifice. Journeying up to the top of High Place of Sacrifice will take some well needed energy and lots of water on hot days, but the view you will have when you reach the top is amazing. With elegant rock altars and an amazing view of Petra, the High Place of Sacrifice is worth every step to the top.
The Ad-Deir Monastery
800 man made rock steps up to Petra's largest building, overlooking the valley happens to be the Ad-Deir Monastery. Just like the Treasury this building has been hand craved and overly stunning in every aspect. This is a place you will really want to travel up to and experience among all other things in Petra, Jordan.
For those traveling to Petra, please be advised that you are not actually allowed having motorized transportation within Petra. You are able to reach this beautiful city by either, camel, horse drawn carriages or donkeys. The best time to travel into Petra is early in the morning or late afternoon for best temperatures and photograph opportunities, but it is truly a beautiful city any time of day.
